Ενας νεαρός φεύγει στη διάρκεια της δικτατορίας για το Παρίσι, όπου ζητά βοήθεια από ένα μοναχικό και σχεδόν μισάνθρωπο μακρινό συγγενή του, που έχει εργαστήριο επεξεργασίας γούνας. Μαζί του κουβαλά τη φωτογραφία μιας τραγουδίστριας που την παρουσιάζει σαν αδελφή του, δημιουργώντας έτσι μια σειρά από παρεξηγήσεις, οι οποίες τον παρασύρουν σ’ ένα φαύλο κύκλο με αλλεπάλληλα ψέματα και φαντασιώσεις. Μια αλληγορική ιστορία με τη μορφή σύγχρονης τραγωδίας, γύρω από τις «παρεξηγήσεις» και τις απάτες της σύγχρονης ελληνικής Ιστορίας, ιδωμένη από την οπτική ενός Ελληνα της διασποράς. Ενα μάθημα ελληνικότητας, το οποίο δεν ανέχτηκαν οι μικρόψυχοι της εποχής.

Pier Paolo Pasolini Salo, or the 120 Days of Sodom (1975)

Set in the Nazi-controlled, northern Italian state of Salo in 1944, four dignitaries round up sixteen perfect specimens of youth and take them together with guards, servants and studs to a palace near Marzabotto. In addition, there are four middle-aged women: three of whom recount arousing stories whilst the fourth accompanies on the piano. The story is largely taken up with their recounting the stories of Dante and De Sade: the Circle of Manias, the Circle of Shit and the Circle of Blood.

After the deathwish of Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid, it's logical that the spirit of a dead man should dominate its successor. And for a director so preoccupied with male virility, it's hardly surprising that Peckinpah has made a film primarily about impotence: Oates, a washed-up American bar-room pianist, hunts for the head of the stud Garcia and for his own machismo

Music and Abstraction

The rhythmic elements of cinema are explored by artists and filmmakers fascinated by the abstract qualities of light. The American authors of avant-garde classics Le Retour la raison (1923), Ballet m canique (1923-24), An mic cin ma (1926), and Une Nuit sur le Mont Chauve (1934), are finally acknowledged for their seminal artistic achievements made in Europe. Pioneer abstract films by Ralph Steiner, Mary Ellen Bute, Douglass Crockwell, Dwinnell Grant, and George Morris are compared and contrasted with Hollywood montages created by Ernst Lubitsch, Slavko Vorkapich, and Busby Berkeley. For the first time on video, composer George Antheil's original 1924 score accompanies Fernand L ger and Dudley Murphy's film Ballet m canique, a truly avant-garde cacophony of image and sound.
